James Tynion IV is an American comic book writer and co-creator of the Something Is Killing the Children comic series, as well as its Slaughterverse spinoffs. He is also an executive producer on the Netflix original supernatural drama of the same name.

Biography[]

Tynion is an award-winning comic book artist with an extensive career in comics, with his most known work being within the Batman franchise at DC Comics, as well as the Something Is Killing the Children comic series. He attended Sarah Lawrence College, where he studied creative writing as well as Scott Snyder. Afterward, he interned for the Vertigo imprint of DC Comics, where he co-wrote the back-up features for the New 52 relaunch of Batman, leading to the launch of the spinoff comic Talon, by Snyder and Tynion.

In 2013, Tynion released The Eighth Seal, his first original comic series through Thrillbent. The following year, he released the comic book miniseries Memetic at Boom! Studios, which went on to be nominated for a GLAAD Media Award. Through his partnership with Boom!, Tynion worked on The Backstagers, while also continuing his work with DC, writing the first ever meeting between the two franchises with the Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book crossover.

After launching the acclaimed Justice League Dark in 2018, Tynion released the award-winning Something is Killing the Children comic series, which began as a limited series but expanded due to popular demand. Since then, he's worked on various hit comics, such as The Department of Truth, Wynd, and The Nice House on the Lake. And in 2021, he announced a spinoff comic to Something is Killing the Children, titled House of Slaughter, co-written with Tate Brombal, and later Sam Johns. That same year, Tynion left his exclusive contract with DC Comics and accepted a grant from Substack to launch a slate of original creator-owned comic titles.
