Oscuratype
Fear needs to go somewhere. Fear needs to become something

Oscuratypes are a breed of monster fought by The Order of St. George. Made from humanity's base, uncategorized fears, they are very populous and highly dangerous.

History[]

It is a strange but fascinating scenario where Oscuratypes were the monsters we faced when we know nothing, and now they are the monsters we face when we know so much.

Many believe that the Oscuratypes were the original monsters. Unlike other monsters, which come from specific phobias, Oscuratypes come from "vague, generalized fears and anxieties." While their numbers dwindled with the rise of civilization and specific folklore, their population surged once again with the advent of science and lack of belief in aforementioned stories. By the 21st century, the advent of the inernet and global communication rose Oscuratype populations to an all-time high.[1]

Oscuratypes do not often have a physical form, and mainly manifest as creatures of shadow,[1] with multiple, glowing eyes, a fanged mouth, and multiple clawed legs they can use to attack.[2] These monsters only become solid when eating or attacking, which means that they are extremely difficult to kill without sacrifice.[1]

Unlike other monsters, the Oscuratype is also specifically able to live a life-cycle similar to those of non-monstrum. With the more meat they consume, they grow into larger and more adult forms, and thus can breed with each other and produce children. This method of repopulation makes them very dangerous and thus necessitates a quick discovery and killing. However, it also makes Oscuratypes favored for The Order of St. George's monster farms, as they are able to breed them, keep them weak, and bind them to Totems.[1]
