Slaughterverse

The Slaughterverse[1] is a comic book franchised created by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell'Edera comprising Something Is Killing the Children and its related spinoffs published by Boom! Studios.

Publication history[]

The Slaughterverse began September 4, 2019, with the launch of the Something Is Killing the Children comic series. The series was initially commissioned as a five-issue miniseries, but was later expanded to an ongoing series as the creators realized they had a much bigger story to tell, and the series proved to be popular.

In May 2021, Something Is Killing the Children spawned its first spinoff with the Free Comic Book Day issue Enter the House of Slaughter, which served as a teaser for the House of Slaughter series that launched the following October.[2][3] House of Slaughter introduced new writers and artists into the Slaughterverse while Something Is Killing the Children remained solely the domain of Tynion and Dell'Edera.

In December 2022, a one-shot comic titled Book of Slaughter #1 was published focusing on Maxine Slaughter.[4] It was followed by two other one-shots, Book of Butcher #1 in December 2023,[5] and Book of Cutter #1 in December 2024.[6] Collectively, these three one-shots are called the Books of Slaughter.[7]

Television adaptation[]

A Something Is Killing the Children adaptation for television has been in development at Netflix since at least July 2021. Initially, the series was being developed by writers Trevor Macy and Mike Flanagan, however creative differences led to the project being shelved and Netflix parting ways with the duo.[8] On February 23, 2023, Netflix announced that Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese, the creators behind Dark and 1899, had been tapped to lead the series.[9]
