Something Is Killing the Children #14 is a horror comic from James Tynion IV and Werther Dell'Edera that was published on January 27, 2021 by Boom! Studios. It is the fourteenth issue in the Something Is Killing the Children comic series, the four issue of the five-part A Game of Nowhere arc, and the fourteenth issue of the fifteen-part Archer's Peak saga.
Synopsis[]
To save the town, Erica must take on the brood of monsters on her own. And Tommy is faced with a decision that means life or death.[1]
Plot[]
Bian is afraid of Octo's ghostly form, and asks why he looks like that. Erica Slaughter responds that she was taught to tame monsters, and taming Octo changed his shape. Some of the other children there made their monsters look pretty, but she never wanted to forget that Octo killed her parents and friend. She has the children lay down on either side of Octo and play the Game of Nowhere, picturing things in their mind and focusing intently on them. She has James tell her about the first time he imagined the monster. He was alone in the house, chatting with his friends on the computer. When he turned off the computer, he was alone in the dark, and he thought he saw a big face in the window. He got so scared thinking about it, he stayed up until two in the morning, and ran to his room. The next night, he told Tyler Monitz that he'd seen said monster, and they dared each other to go into the woods to look for it. James focuses on the monster's image, and Erica tells Bian to imagine the monster in the ravine. Octo then takes on the monster mother's form.
Maxine Slaughter tells everyone to go to the center of the gym and empty their bags, threatening Joe Cavanaugh with an axe. Tommy Mahoney apologizes to his mother, just as he finds his mother over Sophie's body. Tommy gives an insistent Maxine his phone, and she allows them two minutes to say goodbye to Sophie.
Erica explains that James shaped Octo into the monster, and that he needs to watch Bian. She opens the door, and Octo calls for the monster's children, summoning them.
Ms. Mahoney asks Tommy if they are going to be killed, and that she wishes it would just happen now. Tommy tells her that he is going to keep her safe, and he is going to get her out of there and Sophie into a proper grave. Tommy then marches into the crowd, and tells Cavanaugh that he's ready to give the White Masks a better story.
Octo tells Erica that the monsters are coming. She attacks all three of them at once.
Tommy demands that Cavanaugh arrest him. He shouts a confession that he killed all of the kids, and everybody saw him kill that little girl in the parking lot. Because if they saw him as the killer, then nothing would need to be covered up. Maxine tells him that this is crazy, and they should end this another way.
