Something Is Killing the Children #18 is a horror comic from James Tynion IV and Werther Dell'Edera that was published on July 28, 2021 by Boom! Studios. It is the eighteenth issue in the Something Is Killing the Children comic series.
Synopsis[]
What secrets lie at the heart of the House of Slaughter?
Erica, and her rival Aaron, will soon learn as they are pulled deeper and deeper into the Order of St. George... but the truth may destroy them.
Plot[]
Gary Slaughter awakens on the farm and immediately lights a cigarette. Pocketing his azure mask, he makes coffee, goes to the porch, and asks a waiting Buck Slaughter how many monkeys they'd need to release into the wild for a decent breeding population to get into the upper midwest of the United States. Buck doesn't respond until Gary asks if the Slaughterhouse is ready, to which he simply hums an affirmative.
Jessica arrives at the farm, and is happily greeted by Gary and his dogs. He takes Erica inside for breakfast, where she plays with the dogs. They discuss the farm for a moment, with Gary explaining that it's not much of a farm, but more of a training spot where they can't be seen in the public. Erica asks if that means they keep monsters there; while Jessica reprimands her, Gary simply responds that they do. He tells her to say goodbye to the dogs, and to use the bathroom.
Outside the Slaughterhouse, a large barn with the insignia of The Order of St. George over the door, Erica notices the dogs whining. Jessica affirms that she's going to do great, puts on her mask, and tells her how to begin the Sacrament of Initiation. Erica goes inside alone, telling an angry Octo to shush, where she sees Gary behind an altar in the darkness, with only two candles lighting the area. She steps into a marked circle in the room's center, says she has no name, and places Octo on the altar. Gary asks her if she remembers its eyes, and Erica flashes back to when she saw it kill her parents, dropped her octopus, and rushed out to fight it. Gary releases the monster inside of Octo, swearing as it enters Erica's mind and puts her in an unconscious trance. He places the plush on her stomach then leaves, and tells Jessica that she should have warned him how dangerous that monster was, as he's now convinced it's going to kill Erica. The adults then leave to drink.
