Something Is Killing the Children #2 is a horror comic from James Tynion IV and Werther Dell'Edera that was published on October 16, 2019 by Boom! Studios. It is the second issue in the Something Is Killing the Children comic series, the second issue of the five-part The Angel of Archer's Peak arc, and the second issue of the fifteen-part Archer's Peak saga.

Synopsis[]

Children are dying in the town of Archer's Peak and the ones who survive bring back terrible stories. A strange woman named Erica Slaughter has appeared and says she fights these monsters behind the murders, but that can't possibly be true. Monsters aren't real... are they?[1]

Plot[]

Tommy Mahoney, the brother of missing child Sophie, wakes up late for work. He checks on his mother, who is emotionally numb due to her daughter's disappearance. She requests that Tommy put up missing posters on the cars outside the Applebeams he manages; though he had been asked to stop, he does it anyway in order to make his mother feel better. He is approached by the Oscuratype, but it does not attack him as he cannot see it.

At the Applebeams, Erica Slaughter and James enter and Erica asks if the restaurant is usually empty, and if she could pay him $50 a day to set up camp in one specific booth. Not answering James's questions, Erica shows him pictures of his friends. James mentions he was romantically interested in one of them, but he didn't return his feelings. Erica orders coffee from Tam then dismisses her quickly; James asks if she's hunted monsters before, and she thinks back to her many missions before asking where his house is.

Tam tells Tommy that James is the only survivor found, a suspect who wouldn't tell the cops anything, but that she doesn't recognize the woman with him. She also asks why he isn't in school, and Tommy goes over to the booth. Once there, he sees Erica and James marking houses of the missing and dead children on a map. He points out where he and Sophie lived, and angrily asks what she's doing. James drops Erica's backpack, revealing one of her knives. Suspicious, Tommy grabs Erica, who forcibly slams him into a table, before she and James leave. Tommy reports the incident to the sheriff.

Erica tells James to go home, before answering a call. She tells James that he is allowed to tell the truth to whoever asks, because "they're going to think we're crazy anyways." She goes back to her hotel, and begins talking to Octo, telling him that the monster is a Class E7, which appears to be stashing its food rather than just hunting. She asks him to figure out what type of monster it is, and he responds that he will, revealing he can speak.

Sheriff Joe Cavanaugh arrives at the hotel after Ben reported Erica's location, saying there were "noises" and "weird shit" coming from her room. Seeing a glowing light under her door, Cavanaugh knocks on the door. Erica opens it, and while the Sheriff doesn't see anything strange, Octo's demonic form can be seen hovering within the room.
