Synopsis[]
Things in Archer's Peak are only growing worse. Erica Slaughter is on the hunt, but the children are still dying. Angry and afraid, the inhabitants turn their suspicions on the stranger in their midst, the woman who arrived just as the killings began. Will Erica be able to save the town, or will the very people she is trying to protect turn on her?[1]
Plot[]
A young girl hides, bleeding and chanting to herself that she doesn't believe in monsters. The monster attacks and kills her as she cries for help. At a bar, a drunk Henry talks about his deceased son, and how he keeps thinking about the man he should have become. At another table, Tommy Mahoney is describing his encounter with Erica to Tam and another friend. He says that if the Sheriff lets her go, he will do what he has to do.
Sheriff Joe Cavanaugh interviews Erica, looking down at her obviously-fake license. She responds that he had already asked her for alibis for certain days, and that if he looked the dates and places she gave to him up, he would hear a lot of stories about "little towns like this with missing kids," and that he would want to lock her up for that, but that he had seen her getting off the bus, meaning he knew she wasn't in town when children started disappearing. But she knows he would still want to arrest her in order to feel like he was doing something. She then asked what children went missing first, before bodies started to be found. Joe snaps at her not to play games with him, that children are dead, and she says that's why she's here. She then states that he's going to get a call soon, and then let her go after that, and the problem will go away. He will never know what really happened, that kids were going to stop dying, and it would happen sooner if he told her what she wanted to know. Officer Richards comes in, saying that there's five more dead kids. Cavanaugh tells Richards to put Erica in the drunk tank, but as she assures him that she understands how he feels, and she has the power to stop this, Cavanaugh orders Richards to release her. He tells her that Sara Washington was the first disappearance, a month and a half prior, and that they had thought her uncle had taken her, but there was still no sign. She then tells him to tell whoever calls him that he should have called sooner, and saved five children. Cavanaugh asks Richards to keep an eye on Erica.
Outside the station, Erica meets with James, who is skipping school in order to feel like he's doing something. Erica tells Octo that the monster can't be an E7, and he responds that the kill pattern is more consistent with a Class B Oscuratype. James snarks about her talking to a stuffed animal, and Erica snaps at him. She then apologizes, and tells him that they are going to need lots of weapons.
