Synopsis[]
Erica Slaughter can never rest. The dust of Archer's Peak has barely settled before the monster hunt takes her to a new town. And in Archer's Peak, life will never be the same; James struggles to put his life back together, while Tommy begins to think of a life outside the town he was raised in.[1]
Plot[]
Mrs. Mahoney and several other parents wait outside the school as bodies are transported to the gymnasium; they will soon be called in to identify bodies. Tommy tells his mother to go home, but she says she won't until she says goodbye to Sophie. Inside the school, Principal Collins takes a drink with Tim Cavanaugh, saying that he feels numb at the horrors they're seeing. Collins asks if they found the animal that did this, and Tim says he's not the one to ask.
Erica Slaughter waits in a tree with Octo, who tells her that she knows this won't work. Erica then sees the Archer's Peak Oscuratype children approach, lured out by their mother's body parts. Octo tells Erica that they're crying because she killed their mother, and because they're hungry. Erica then attempts to kill them, but they fade out, uninjured, and escape. Aaron Slaughter reminds Erica that Oscuratypes are only solid when feeding, but Erica, frustrated that he's here, snaps that she just wanted fewer children to die. She also calls Aaron a brat who doesn't get his hands dirty. Aaron says he knows this breed is personal for her, and then that they're going to need bait to draw out the monsters. Erica refuses to use either Bian or James, as it means they'll see an Order Ritual and be forcibly recruited. Aaron also references having to take care of Tommy Mahoney, reminding Erica that they are not heroes, they are hunters. She quietly agrees to take him to Bian. As they leave, it's revealed that Officer Richards was still tailing Erica; he tells Gail to pack a bag for Bian, and that she is not to leave with anybody but him. When Gail says the sheriff won't like that, Richards loads a gun.
