Something Is Killing the Children #9 is a horror comic from James Tynion IV and Werther Dell'Edera that was published on August 12, 2020 by Boom! Studios. It is the ninth issue in the Something Is Killing the Children comic series, the fourth issue of the five-part The House of Slaughter arc, and the ninth issue of the fifteen-part Archer's Peak saga.
Synopsis[]
With her mysterious employers looking to recall and reprimand her, Erica's running out of time to save the town of Archer's Peak. Do the answers lie with the mysterious young girl found in the monster's lair who no one can identify?[1]
Plot[]
The Parker brothers, Brendan and Corey, are looking for their brother Jason, who had run into the woods while their parents waited in the parking lot to identify their sister's body. They are intercepted by Tommy Mahoney, who tells them to run; unfortunately, Corey is speared by an Oscuratype monster, terrifying both Brendan and Tommy.
In the hospital, James snaps at an approaching Erica, saying he knows she wants something horrible from him. She admits she needs him as bait, and James laughs. He says he thought she was going to make everything okay, and they'd get revenge on the monster, but he knows now that she is just as scared as everyone else. She tells him that she does know what she's doing, but that makes her fear worse, as she knows how bad this can get. But she is here because she went through the same thing as a child, when a monster killed her best friend and parents. She managed to hurt the monster, which was then trapped by Jessica Slaughter, who brought her to the House of Slaughter to be trained to hunt monsters. But now disillusioned with the House, which does more to cover up deaths than stop them from happening, she refuses to recruit James. But she does need his help now, and though it will be risky, it will save many other children. Tam then runs in, having hoped that Erica was with James. She relays Tommy's message that the monsters are behind the school and have killed another kid.
Sheriff Joe Cavanaugh arrives at the school and asks Tim if Sophie Mahoney's family has been in. Tim tells him they haven't gotten to her yet, and that he's been handing out beers to the families that come in. An officer then runs in and reports noises from the forest.
In the woods, Brendan calls for help. Tommy tries to distract the creatures, but Brendan runs and gets killed. Tommy begs for the monsters to kill him too, but they leave as Sheriff Cavanaugh arrives and tells Tommy to put his hands atop his head.
